This is quite the boon for the console crowd, which has typically lagged behind the PC edition with new content. While the Steam version is up to a staggering 254 updates (wouldn’t you say it’s about time for a full release already Studio Wildcard?) the PS4 is now up to… version 1.10. In addition to the latest update, a new one is already prepped for Valentine’s Day that predictably revolves around mating dinos.
ARK 1.10 Patch Notes
The big draw here for PS4 players is a slew of fixes for perennial crashes and various memory problems, which have been an ongoing issue on the console editions (and anyone trying to run the PC version on the higher graphics settings). A Studio Wildcard employee issued this tweet about the update:
Most notably, the annoying “blue screens of death” when launching a server with previous 1.09 update have now been resolved (huzzah!). Problems with the invite/join mechanics are also reportedly resolved.
Anyone who was more interested in new content than beneath-the-hood fixes will be pleased to know 1.10 brings the PS4 edition up to PC equivalent content through patch 254 – including various new dinos, engrams, and equipment.
TEK tier equipment is easily the most-buzzed about at the moment, with each piece coming in phases over the month, including a helmet with a built-in oxygen tank and night vision as well as a laser-mounted saddle for the Rex!
I’m trying to think of something more awesome than this and got nothing.
Fixing ARK 1.10 Update Problems
It wouldn’t be a major ARK update without a gigantic snag, now would it? Predictably, there have been some ARK 1.10 update bugs that need to be fixed. The most frequent issue is a complete inability to update at all, as the download hangs at 0% and won’t progress.
The issue was addressed in a series of tweets from Studio Wildcard, indicating you should follow this path to restart the update and get things working:
Close ARK > Fully Shut Down Console > Restart > Notifications > Download ARK 1.10
According to a tweet from the official ARK Twitter profile, you may have to go through this process repeatedly to resolve the 1.10 patch issue, as a large number of players are all trying to access the update at the same time resulting in a traffic jam.
Valentine’s Day Celebration
1.10 isn’t all that’s new for ARK this week though! On February 14th, a special Valentine’s Day celebration is planned as part of the phased updates throughout the month. On the 14th you will have access to the Mate Boost event offering these additions:
Two new hairstyles Bonus loving emote 5% chance for dinos to drop a Box of Chocolate when mating (weird. . . ) Mate Boosted range increased by 2x Mating Speed and Mating Recovery increased by 3x Creature Maturing and Egg Incubation speed increased by 3x Baby Food Consumption decreased by a third
